Concessionary Travel Scheme

A concessionary travel scheme to meet the needs of the over 60’s and disabled people resident in the Borough of Dartford.

Connecting you with free and discounted travel services

About your concessionary travel options

Dartford Borough Council administrates a concessionary travel scheme which offers reduced cost and free travel for residents over the age of 60 or with applicable disabilities.

The scheme offers two different options for travel across the country – either a free bus pass for free travel on local bus services anywhere in England OR a rail warrant towards the cost of a Senior or Disabled Persons Railcard

Qualifying residents are entitled to choose ONE concessionary travel option:

This pass entitles you to travel on ‘local’ bus services at off peak times, between 9.30am and 11pm on weekdays and any time at weekends and on public holidays.

The definition of a ‘local’ bus is generally self-evident – it is those services that connect you to the local town or neighbouring areas.  In a few instances this can include some longer distance buses and coach services where part of their route is registered as a local bus service. If in doubt you can check with the service operator or the council

In London your bus pass is only applicable to buses and is not the same as the London Freedom Pass. If you already have a bus pass you should have already received your new bus pass through the post.

The warrant, to the value of up to £10.50, reduces the cost of applying for a railcard which entitles the holder to further discounts on train journeys.  You would need to pay the balance of the fee for the railcard and the reduced cost of tickets for travel.
