"Education and Social Cohesion through Sport and Culture, a Cross-Border Exchange Network" Programme
As part of the partnership between the Dunkerque Grand Littoral Communauté Urbaine and Dartford Borough Council, sporting encounters already take place every two years.
The current project, under the European Interreg 3A Programme, is intended to take the, afore mentioned, partnership to a new level, to address issues in education and social cohesion through sport and culture and, in so doing, to increase trans-maritime ties between elected officials, professionals and citizens.
The project is designed, in close conjunction with the local townships and volunteer associations, around existing or emerging actions and, more specifically, around the following operational objectives:
- Bring young people not involved in community- or association-sponsored activities to participate in physical activities and join in community actions
- Target parents in order to promote the physical activities necessary to their children’s development
- Use physical activity, sport and culture as tools for improving social cohesion, in particular between neighbourhoods of a single city that are separated geographically or socially
The "Education and Social Cohesion through Sport and Culture, a Cross-Border Exchange Network" Programme includes the following partners:
- On the French side: the lead partner CUD, the Cities of Dunkerque, Grande-Synthe, Gravelines, Saint-Pol-Sur-Mer, Leffrinckoucke and Loon-Plage, as well as the Association de Promotion de la santé in the Dunkerque Region, and partners,
- On the British side: the Dartford Borough Council, Acetate, Don’t Sit Get Fit, Judokwai, Positive Futures, and Pac Theatre.
