How to Pay Your Council Tax

You can make payments at any time by using our secure online payment option. You need to have your Debit/Credit card and Council Tax account number ready. The Council can only accept payment by Switch, Visa Debit, Mastercard, Visa, Electron, or Solo.
If this is the first time you have used our online payment service, please read the security information.
Please note, it takes 2 working days before the payment shows on your account. If you need to make an urgent payment please pay via Customer Services (in person or by telephone).
Direct Debit
Direct Debit is the Council's preferred method of payment. It is a convenient way to pay your tax and the cost of administering payments is low therefore helping to keep your Council Tax Bill down.

Taxpayers opting to pay by Direct Debit receive the following benefits:
- choice of four payments dates, either the 1st, 8th, 15th or 22nd
- pay monthly, quarterly, or half-yearly
- only complete one form
- have an indemnity guarantee should an error occur
- no cheques to write, no postage, no queuing
If the amounts to be paid or the payment dates change, Dartford Borough Council will notify you 10 working days in advance of your account being debited or as otherwise agreed.
Alternatively you can telephone the Council Tax Section on 01322 343700 to sign up for direct debit over the telephone or print a blank Direct Debit Mandate. This should then be completed and returned to us.
Once the instruction is in operation, you should not need to worry about arranging payments - let the Council and your bank do that for you.
Standing Order
Paying by standing order ensures you keep full control. You advise your bank of your Council Tax instalments, they send us the money.
Internet/ Telephone Banking
If your Bank/Building Society offers this facility you can pay your instalments by this method.

Touch Tone
You can use this fully automated payment service by calling 0845 634 3001. This service is available 24hrs/7 days a week.

Debit/Credit Card
You can pay in person at the Dartford cash office within the Civic Centre on Monday, Tuesday, Thursday and Friday from 09.00 to 15.00; or at the Swanscombe cash office on Monday, Tuesday, Thursday and Friday from 09.00 to 13.00. Neither office is open on Wednesdays.
You can also pay by ringing the Credit/Debit Card Hotline on 01322 343760 with your card and payment details between Monday and Friday between 9.00am and 4.00 pm. For your convenience and to avoid waiting, please avoid our busy period between 12.00pm and 2.00pm if possible.
Cash and Cheques
Please remember that your Council Tax instalments are due on or before the dates specified. You should therefore allow enough time when making your payment for the Council to receive it on or before the due date. Payment can be made:
In Person at One of the Cashiers Offices
- Civic Centre, Dartford
Monday to Friday (excluding Wednesday) 9.00am to 3.00pm - Swanscombe Town Council Offices
Monday to Friday (excluding Wednesday) 9.00am to 1.00pm
Both cash offices are closed all day on Wednesday.

To the Council Tax Section, Civic Centre, Home Gardens, Dartford, Kent DA1 1DR.
Cheques should be made payable to Dartford Borough Council, crossed 'A/C Payee' and have your Council Tax account reference and/or name and address on the back.
Please enclose a stamped addressed envelope if you require a receipt.
Please do not send post dated cheques.
