Homelessness Strategy Review 2008 and Homelessness Strategy Implementation Group
Homelessness Review 2008
The Homelessness Act 2002 requires all local authorities to carry out a review of homelessness in their district at least every five years, to develop and publish a Homelessness Strategy based on this review, and to consult with other local statutory and voluntary organisations. The council published its first Homelessness Strategy in 2003 and following an external audit, a revised Homelessness Strategy 2004-2007 was published.
The Homelessness Review 2008 involved:
- Establishing the extent of homelessness in Dartford
- Identifying existing services and resources currently available
- Assessing the extent of homelessness in the future
- Identifying any gaps in service provision.
A series of consultation events took place with service users and local stakeholder organisations to help inform the review. We wish to express our thanks to everyone who participated in the review process.
Homelessness Strategy 2008-2011
Following further consultation, the revised Homelessness Strategy 2008-2011 is now finalised and explains how the council will:
- Prevent homelessness in the district
- Ensure that sufficient accommodation is and will be available for people in the district who are or may become homeless
- Secure satisfactory provision of support for people in the district who are or may become homeless or who have been homeless and need support to prevent them from becoming homeless again.
