Planned Works
Housing Improvements 2008/2009
An important programme of home improvements is now well underway in areas across the borough. Aimed at helping to meet the government’s ‘Decent Homes Standard’ the programme is focussed on kitchens, doors, windows and outside areas.
Kitchens
Over 530 kitchens have already been replaced this year. Work involves completely removing all existing fixtures and fittings and replacing them with a new fitted kitchen flooring and redecorating the kitchen throughout.
External Doors
Over 1000 homes will have benefited from new front and/or back door
replacements by April 2009.
External Repairs
Over 120 properties are to have repairs to external walls. The work will include render and pointing repairs as well as the renewal of fascias, soffitts, gutters and downpipes.
Window Replacement
All Council homes have now been upgraded to uPVC double glazed windows, with the last 3 being replaced this year.
Digital TV Aerial Upgrades
Those homes that currently use communal analogue aerials will soon benefit from an upgrade to digital TV transmission. The replacement programme starts in January and will take around 2 years to upgrade all homes.
Disabled Adaptations
Approximately 50 properties will benefit from major adaptations (full wet rooms) ranging from over bath showers to full extensions.
Other smaller work programmes
Include boiler replacement, structural repairs, rewires and door entry systems.Kitchens
