Mayor announced for Dartford - Councillor Eddy Lampkin
The Election of the Worshipful The Mayor of Dartford took place in a formal ceremony at Council Chambers on Wednesday 25 May 2011.
As a Dartford resident for most of my life, I am very proud to represent the Borough as Mayor for the first time with my Mayoress, Brenda Lampkin.
For the last eight years, I have represented Wilmington on the Borough Council and served on Wilmington Parish Council. As part of these roles, I have held a number of positions, including chairman of Dartford Borough Council's Quality Services Overview Committee. I have also been a member of the Licensing Committee and Joint Transportation Board.
From 1989-1995 and 1999-2003, I also served as a Councillor on Sutton-at-Hone and Hawley Parish Council.
As deputy Mayor in 2010-11, I was constantly amazed at the great work that takes place within our community by the many organisations that I visited. I am looking forward to visiting more groups and organisations and seeing the fantastic things going on around the Borough.
One of the other important roles of Mayor is to support local charities. This year I will be supporting four - Arrow Riding School, DGSM yourChoice, chYps and Cherished Memories.
I have been involved with the voluntary sector for over twenty years and am currently a trustee of DGSM Your Choice, a charity for people with learning difficulties. I enjoy supporting the charity whether it means selling raffle tickets or running in 10km road races for them.
I am also proud to be a governor for Wilmington Grammar School for Boys and have just started a second term in the role.
Lastly, I would like to thank all concerned – Councillors, officers and residents - for this opportunity to represent Dartford, and I look forward to seeing many of you at events throughout the year!
