Arrow Riding School
Arrow Riding School was founded in 1982 and uses horses to provide a unique form of physiotherapy for disabled adults and children. As well as improving physical fitness, the horse-riding improves motivation, reduces dependency on others and gives the rider a great sense of achievement. The Arrow Riding Centre also teaches horse-riding and carriage driving to international and Paralympic standards.
DGSM yourChoice
A registered charity established to support people with learning disabilities and their carers through the promotion of their care, training, housing, education, employment, leisure and recreation.
The charity works towards enabling people with learning disabilities to develop self-fulfillment and independence. Their vision is that all people with learning disabilities will be given the same opportunities as others to live rewarding lives in the community. The charity believes that all people have rights, opportunities and also responsibilities. Their aim is to ensure that, with adequate support, people with learning disabilities can exercise their rights, use their opportunities and understand their responsibilities
chYps
chYps is a part of EllenorLions Hospices which enables children and young people in the local area with life-limiting and life-threatening conditions to receive clinical and hospice care and support in their and their families’ place of choice, often their own home. In doing this, they support and care for the whole family.
In their own homes, the charity offers a seamless service of care for children and young people aged 0-19 years; working closely with a variety of care providers to provide chemotherapy, palliative care, end of life care and a wide range of other care and support services.
chYps also provides a transition service for young people entering adulthood, to help them move smoothly into adult care.
Cherished Memories
Based in Greenhithe, this charity organises some amazing events for children from local hospices, together with their families - special days for them to look back on and remember with happiness.
The charity have found how important it is to involve the whole family as the events are video taped. This helps with the grieving process, particularly for healthy siblings. Very often these siblings feel left out. They cannot understand why the sick child gets all the fuss and attention. Sometimes jealousy can sink in, creating feelings of guilt when the child dies.
Money raised for the charity goes towards the special events which take a lot of careful consideration and organisation. Events in the past have included flights in chartered aeroplanes, visits to Formula 1 race tracks, hot air ballooning, limousine rides, trips to the theatre and much, much more.
