Free Object Identification Service
Members of the public are always welcome to bring in any objects which they would like to have identified. Members of staff are often able to provide a verbal identification on the spot but objects can also be left at the
Museum for more detailed identifications or when staff need to seek advice from other museum s. Please note that no valuations can be given by Museum staff.
Dartford Borough Museum also welcomes metal detectorists who would like to have their finds identified and, if they wish, recorded for the Portable Antiquities Scheme which was set up in 1997 to record on a voluntary basis the large number of archaeological finds made by members of the public in England and Wales.
On some occasions, the local representative of the Portable Antiquities Scheme, the Finds Liaison Officer for Kent, holds an open day at Dartford Borough Museum . Please contact the Museum for details of the next one.
- Details of the Portable Antiquities Scheme can be found on its own website www.finds.org.uk
