The Big Lottery Fund has today announced that Tree Estate and part of Dartford town centre are two areas out of a total 50 that will benefit from a nationwide £1 million funding programme. The ‘Big Local Trust’ has been designed to help people in areas that have been overlooked for funding in the past, particularly from the Big Lottery Fund. Dartford Borough Council and the Big Local Trust will consult with residents to make their communities better places to live, now and in the future.

Experts from the Council’s Health & Safety team will be participating in Bluewater’s Safety Weeks from Monday 26th July – Friday 30th July. As part of the shopping destination’s continuing commitment to the safety and wellbeing of its customers and visitors, it is working with partners to get the message about safety out into the wider community.
Dartford Borough Council’s safety team will be in Bluewater’s Lower Thames Walk, adjacent to the Water Circus (26 – 30th July 2010) promoting the Safety in Action campaign. They will be providing advice and on hand to answer questions across a range of safety matters.

60,000 people visited Central Park over the weekend for the town’s hugely popular annual Festival. Highlights from this year’s event included star turns from top comedian and television personality, Bobby Davro who will also be appearing at the borough’s Christmas panto at the Orchard Theatre in Jack and the Beanstalk this December, 70′s pop group, The Real Thing recalled their heyday of top ten hits alongside the latest X Factor finalists and winners from Twist and Pulse to Jamie Archer and Tobias Mead. Young people can obtain practical advice on how to manage their money and get information to be able to make informed choices about their finances and avoid the pitfalls of debt. The free two hour training course is open to anyone aged 16-25 whether in work, in education or training, unemployed, caring for children or on benefits and a certificate of attendance is given.
The training takes place on Wednesday 28 July, from 10.30am to 12.30pm at Acacia Hall, High Street, Dartford.

Sir Mick Jagger opened an extension to the eponymously named Arts Centre, a decade on from its launch.
He also returned to Dartford see how the centre is working to foster new musical talent. Sir Mick funds a project which delivers music tuition to over 150 local children and he returned to see how the work of the centre is making a difference to new musical talent.
