Crossrail Safeguarding
In February 2005 the Secretary of State for Transport deposited a hybrid Bill which would permit the construction of Crossrail as far east as Abbey Wood on the North Kent Line. At the same time Safeguarding Directions were for the Crossrail route from Abbey Wood to Hoo Junction.
In September 2008 the Department of Transport consulted on revised safeguarding for the Crossrail route between Abbey Wood to Gravesend
and Hoo Junction. Click here to view the safeguarding maps.
The aim of the Safeguarding Directions is to ensure that developments along this rail corridor do not impact on the ability to extend Crossrail in future.
Local Planning Authorities are required to consult with Cross London Rail Links Limited (CLRL) when determining planning applications for land within the limits shown on the safeguarding plans attached to the Direction.
Whilst land along the route of Crossrail in the Borough may not be covered by the February 2005 Direction in its entirety, it is expected that the 2008 consultation version will be confirmed shortly. Anyone with an interest in land affected by the 2008 draft consultation maps is recommended to liaise with the CLRL at:
