Listed Buildings and Conservation Areas
You will need to apply for listed building consent if:
- you want to demolish a listed building; or
- you want to alter or extend a listed building which would affect its character as a building of special architectural of historical interest
WARNING: IT IS A CRIMINAL OFFENCE TO CARRY OUT WORKS TO A LISTED BUILDING WITHOUT FIRST OBTAINING CONSENT FROM THE LOCAL COUNCIL
You will need to apply for conservation area consent if you live in a conservation area and you want to:
- demolish a building with a volume of more than 115 cubic metres; or
- demolish a gate, fence, wall or railing over 1 metre high where next to a highway (including a public footpath or bridleway) or public open space; or over 2 metres high elsewhere.
- If the applicant does not own all the application site or encroachment does occur then the relevant notices must be served on the appropriate owners or interested parties.
- Encroachment can include foundations or gutters which go over the site boundary. Please use the following form to serve notice Planning Certificate B or Planning Certificate C or D
