Parking Management
Many residents asked the Council to look at introducing parking controls around Dartford town centre and Greenhithe railway station because of parking related problems. There have been several rounds of consultation and proposals drafted following liaison with the respective ward councillors.
Greenhithe: Following two rounds of informal consultation with residents in the vicinity of Greenhithe railway station and the statutory consultation during October 2009, resident supported Controlled Parking Zones (CPZs) will be introduced. The work to put in lines and signs started in April 2010 but it has been stopped due to a number of residents raising concerns over the visual intrusion of the lines and signs in some areas and they requested that be minimised as far as possible. We hope to achieve this by using a 'Restricted Zone' sign however this sign requires permission from the Department for Transport (DfT). We have made an application to the DfT and are awaiting approval and/or a response but this has delayed making the scheme operational. We estimate the CPZ will become operational by the end of August 2010. We are aiming to make the new parking management scheme operational as soon as possible and will notify local drivers in advance.
Dartford: At the begining of September 2009, we asked the Dartford town residents what they thought of initial parking management proposals and more than one thousand responses were received. These indicated support for proposals in the streets closest to the town centre and non support in streets further away from the town. The statutory consultation is delayed until Autumn 2010 due to the delivery of the Greenhithe schemes.
No decisions have been made yet to implement any parking controls in Dartford and we continue to advise that none will be implemented where the majority of respective communities object to parking controls.
